The fifth grade is constantly working on improving their English Language Arts skills as well as Mathematical competency. Math lessons include powers of 10, fractions, decimals, mixed numbers, operations with fractions and decimals, geometry, multiplication, division, logical reasoning, and probability.
Lessons in social studies include geography, routes of the first American discoverers, learning about the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas, European and Viking explorers, 15th century trade routes to Asia, French, Dutch, and English colonies and the establishment of slavery in the New World, wars in our history (American & Indian, American Revolution, War of 1812, Civil War).
Science in the fifth grade looks at the Earth's rotation and revolution, its history, the water cycle, the adaptation of living things, learned and instinctive behaviors, food chains and webs, matter, and energy.
